Arlington, VA

Arlington is the closest jurisdiction to Reagan National and, in practice, an extension of downtown Washington across the river. Its corridors of hotels, offices and apartments along the Orange and Blue Metro lines generate a steady rhythm of airport runs, business travel and evenings out.

Early-morning DCA transfers from Rosslyn, Courthouse, Clarendon and Ballston; executive travel between the Pentagon, Crystal City, National Landing and Capitol Hill; visits to Arlington National Cemetery and the Marine Corps War Memorial; hotel transfers for conference guests; and dinners in Clarendon or Shirlington that end late.

Timing notes

Route 50, I-66 and the George Washington Parkway carry the commuter load and slow accordingly. The bridges into the District, particularly the Key Bridge and the 14th Street Bridge, are the choke points. The proximity to DCA is real, but it can be undone by a badly timed departure; we plan around the hour. Access to the Pentagon and military facilities requires correct gate details in advance.
